Minister of Public Works

The Ministry of Public Works and family spokespersons confirmed on 20 June 2012, that Minister Nxesi’s 17-year old daughter Ms Lona Nxesi was on her way home to Midrand from a boarding school in Bloemfontein when the accident occurred on Monday, 18 June 2012. According to media reports family spokesman and uncle, Zinzile Nxesi told The Star newspaper that they suspected that the driver lost control of the vehicle just outside Kroonstad in the Free State. He said the car belonged to the minister and was driven by one of his drivers.

Lona Nxesi was studying to complete her matric and according to her uncle, was passionate about media studies, although she was majoring in mathematics. The family has indicated that funeral arrangements would be made public once they have been finalised.
