Condolences: Passing of former MP David Dlali

It is with sadness and shock that we came to learn of the tragic passing of former African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament, David Dlali who was found murdered on his farm in Matatiele in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province on Monday 11 June 2012. According to news reports, the office of the ANC Chief Whip in Parliament said that Mr. Dlali was found dead on Monday morning.

Dlali served as a Member of Parliament representing Gugulethu between 2001 and 2009, before joining the ministry of women, children and people with disabilities as special adviser to Minister Lulu Xingwana. He served on various parliamentary portfolio committees in the National Assembly, including provincial and local government, minerals and energy and defence.  A former underground operative of the ANC’s military wing Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), Mr. Dlali was born on 23 January 1960 in Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape.

He served in various provincial structures of the ANC in the Western Cape, including as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee and Chairman of the party’s Dullah Omar region.

We are humbled to have worked with Mr. Dlali and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the ANC and the nation. May his legacy of service to humanity and a non-racial and democratic South Africa continue inspire generations to come and serve an example and reminder to us all.

Hamba Kahle! May his soul rest in peace.
